Raise the temperature of bevel gear (27). Install bevel gear (27) to housing (26). The weight of bevel gear (27) is approximately 24 kg (53 lb). Allow bevel gear (27) to cool to room temperature. Install new bolts (28) and washers. Tighten bolts (28) to a torque of 105 10 N m (77 7 lb ft). Then, turn bolts (28) for an additional 120° 10°.Note: Bolts (28) cannot be substituted with other bolts. Use ONLY Caterpillar bolts.

Install thrust washer (25). The grooved side of thrust washer (25) should face differential gear (24). Install differential gear (24) .

Lubricate thrust washer (20) and pinion gear (21) with clean oil. Install thrust washer (20), pinion gear (21), and bearing sleeve (22) onto spider (23). Repeat this step for the remaining pinion gears (21) .

Use two people in order to install spider assembly (19). The weight of spider assembly (19) is approximately 14 kg (30 lb).

Use two people in order to install differential gear (18). The weight of differential gear (18) is approximately 14 kg (30 lb).

Use two people in order to install housing (17). The weight of housing (17) is approximately 23 kg (50 lb).

Install springs (16). Install plates (14) and discs (15) according to the order from the disassembly procedure. Install thrust washer (13) .

Install case (12). Install bolts (11). Tighten bolts (11) to a torque of 120 20 N m (89 15 lb ft).

Install thrust ring (10). Install O-ring seals (9). Install bearing race (8). Install retaining ring (7) .

Press bearing assembly (5) onto the differential case assembly. Install nut (4). Use Tooling (B) in order to tighten nut (4) to a torque of 300 40 N m (221 30 lb ft). Tighten setscrews (3) to a torque of 28 7 N m (20 5 lb ft). Lubricate bearing assembly (5) with clean oil.

Install shroud (2) and bolts (1). Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 28 7 N m (20 5 lb ft).End By: Install the differential and bevel gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Differential and Bevel Gear (Locking) - Install".
