Component Code(s) 7561SUBJECT: Final Drive Duo-Cone Seal Mating Parts Modified to Increase Seal Durability
PROBLEM:
The final drives on the machines that are listed above are leaking from the Duo-Cone Seal Group. Abrasive dirt can prematurely wear out the sealing surfaces of the Duo-Cone seal group. Mud that is packed in the final drive can also displace the toric seal. Oil is then allowed to leak through the failed seals.
SOLUTION:
To minimize the dirt entry through the labyrinth, the dimensions of the labyrinth have been modified. Also, the seal face load has been increased in order to provide a longer life of the seal because the load on the face remains high enough to seal for a longer period of time. The contact pressure between the toric seal and the ramp has been increased in order to improve resistance to mud. This is accomplished because the toric seal is not displaced easily.
The changes to the labyrinth and the increased load on the face are effective with the following machine serial numbers that are listed in the following Table.

(S/N: ALY1510)Final drive guards must be installed on machines that operate in an environment when wire is present or when video tape is present. The guard provides additional elements of protection to the seal in order to prevent losing oil due to a wire wrapping around the final drive.
