There have been several improvements that have been made in the field for the resolution of the issue that is explained below. This publication is intended to raise the operator awareness of the issue and the best time for the repair of the issue.Problem
This publication is intended for Caterpillar dealers to increase operator awareness of a new CGI line leak rate specification that is published in the On-highway Engine Application and Installation Guide, LEGT6416, that may be needed to prevent the ingestion of road salt and debris on on-highway trucks installed with 2007 EPA certified Caterpillar engines.Solution
Caterpillar recommends that Caterpillar dealer representatives ask the owners and operators of on-highway trucks built after January 1, 2007, installed with Caterpillar C7 (S/N:C7S prefix), C9 (S/N:C9S and ; S/N:MFF prefix), C13 (S/N:LEE prefix), and C15 (S/N:SDP and ; S/N:B5R prefix) engines, to immediately contact the local truck dealer to determine if the owners and operators are included in an OEM truck manufacturer field recall to upgrade the CGI line to prevent ingestion of road salt and debris. Any required upgrade should be completed by the truck manufacturer prior to the winter when salt is applied to road surfaces.
