Schematic of the Inertial Measurement SensorThis diagnostic code is associated with the Inertial Measurement Sensor that provides J1939-CAN messages containing lateral acceleration, longitudinal acceleration, vertical acceleration, and yaw rate data to the Chassis ECM.The diagnostic fault code activates for the following possible reasons:
An open in the power supply circuit to the inertial sensor
An open in the inertial sensor signal circuit (CAN + and CAN -)
A short to battery in the inertial sensor signal circuit (CAN + and CAN -)
A short to ground in the inertial sensor signal circuit (CAN +)The inputs that affect the FMI 09 diagnostic codes are listed below:

ATC is not available
ATC will automatically engage the Inter Axle Lock Clutch when throttle and retarding are available
ATC lamp on the main cluster display will flash when the fault is active and a warning message will pop up on the CMPDNote: Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure, and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Test Step 1. INSPECT THE HARNESS CONNECTIONS.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Inspect the harness connections that are related to the CAN B Data Link. Make sure that the connectors are clean and tight.
Check the mating of the connector.
Check the wires at the connector.
Check each wire for nicks and/or signs of abrasion in the insulation.
Check for moisture at the connector.
Check for dirty contacts and/or corroded contacts.
Check each pin and check each socket.Expected Result:The machine harness connectors are tight and free of corrosion.Results:
OK - The machine harness connectors are tight and the connectors are free of corrosion. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The machine harness connectors require repair. Repair: Repair or replace the harness. STOPTest Step 2. CHECK FOR ADDITIONAL RELATED DIAGNOSTIC CODES.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Acknowledge any active diagnostic codes that are currently displayed.
Verify that there are no related diagnostic codes present. Expected Result:NO other diagnostic codes are present. Results:
OK - NO other related diagnostic codes are present. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - Other related diagnostic codes are present.Repair: Exit this procedure and perform the other related diagnostic codes. Verify that the other related diagnostic codes are NOT present. Observe the status of the CID 1893 FMI 09. If the diagnostic code remains active, perform the procedure again. STOPTest Step 3. CHECK FOR SHORTS
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the Inertial Measurement Sensor and the Chassis ECM.
Measure the resistance between contact J2-64 and each of the contacts that are used in the machine harness connector for the Chassis ECM.Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000
