Information:

a) Heat the bearing cones and cups to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C).b) Install bearing cones (22) and (24) on shaft and bearing cups (20) and (25) in body and head. Be sure that cups and cones are completely against their respective shoulders.c) Install shaft (23) in body.d) Install head and gasket (21) on body. Tighten head bolts.e) Put the dial indicator from tooling (J) in position to measure end play of shaft.f) Pull on shaft, turn the shaft in a clockwise and counterclockwise direction 40° to put the bearings against their seats.g) Turn the indicator to zero while the shaft is turned.h) Push on the shaft. Turn the shaft in a clockwise and counterclockwise direction 40°. Be sure that indicator is at the same place on the shaft as it was in Step g. If shaft end play is .001 to .014 in. (0.03 to 0.36 mm) go to Step 29. If end play is less than .001 in. (0.03 mm) do Steps i through m.i) Remove the head and install two gaskets (21). Tighten the head bolts.j) Pull on the shaft and turn it clockwise and counterclockwise direction 40°. Turn the indicator to zero.k) Push on the shaft and turn it in a clockwise and counterclockwise direction 40°.l) Read the indicator while the shaft is turned. Be sure the indicator is at the same point of contact as before. The indicator must show at least .006 in. (0.15 mm) of end play. This is a .001 in. (0.03 mm) preload which is the maximum permitted.m) Remove one gasket and go to Step 29.29. Remove the head, gaskets and shaft from the pump body.30. Use tooling (G) to remove bearing cone (22) from the impeller end of the pump shaft. 31. Install the inserts and links (26) in the swashplate. Use tool (C) to install the snap rings that hold the links in place. 32. Install wear plate (27) in the swashplate with dowel (28) in alignment with the hole in the wear plate. 33. Put pistons (29) in position on the wear plate in the same position from which they were removed. Install retraction plate (31).34. Put the original amount of shims and retraction bearings (30) in position on the swashplate. Install the bolts.35. Measure the clearance between the piston slippers and wear plate with a feeler gauge (32). The clearance between all slippers and the wear plate must be .003 .001 in. (0.08 0.03 mm). Add or subtract shims if the clearance is not correct. 36. Install the pistons and swashplate as a unit in the barrel (5) respective to the marks put on the barrel and pistons at disassembly.37. Put the barrel and swashplate in position on tooling (D) as shown.38. Install the shaft (23) in the swashplate and barrel.
TYPICAL EXAMPLE39. Put the pump body (34) in position over the shaft, swashplate and barrel. Make sure that the plugs (33) are on the same side of the swashplate as
