3406, 3408 And 3412 Industrial And Marine EnginesDescription of Change: A different water temperature contactor is now used on 3406, 3408 and 3412 Industrial and Marine Engines. The part of the new water temperature contactor which fits into the cylinder head is approximately 45 mm (1.8") long. The part of the former water temperature contactor which fits into the cylinder head is approximately 72 mm (2.8") long. It is some times possible for the former water temperature contactor to make contact with the inside of the cylinder head. This contact can cause the former contactor to give an indication of a hot engine which will cause the engine to shut down.
When a new water temperature contactor is necessary, be sure to install the new, shorter water temperature contactor.
Adaptable As: The new 5N5723 Water Temperature Contactor is a direct replacement for the former 5L6435 Water Temperature Contactor and can be used on all 3406, 3408 and 3412 Industrial and Marine Engines. The former 5L6435 Water Temperature Contactor is still available for use in other applications.
