Use this procedure in order to troubleshoot an occurrence of a high exhaust temperature. Or, use this procedure if one of the following event codes is active.

2433-0 Engine Exhaust Exhaust Gas Temperature - Right Manifold : High - most severe (3)
2434-15 Engine Exhaust Exhaust Gas Temperature - Left Manifold : High - least severe (1) The cylinder exhaust temperature has exceeded the trip point for the programmed delay time. The code is logged.
The ECM may derate the engine or shutdown the engine.
2434-16 Engine Exhaust Exhaust Gas Temperature - Left Manifold : High - moderate severity (2)
2434-0 Engine Exhaust Exhaust Gas Temperature - Left Manifold : High - most severe (3) If the engine is shut down due to a high exhaust temperature, the power to the engine Electronic Control Module (ECM) must be cycled.Probable Causes

High Inlet Air Temperature
High inlet air temperature can cause high exhaust temperatures. Measure the inlet air temperature in order to confirm that the temperature is not excessive. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Intake Manifold Air Temperature Is High".Air Inlet Restriction
Note: Inlet air restriction can cause uneven exhaust port temperatures. Cylinders at the front half of the engine may have higher temperatures than the cylinders at the rear half of the engine. If there are different temperatures, measure the inlet air restriction for each turbocharger. Make repairs in order to equalize the inlet air restriction for each of the turbochargers.If the indication is higher than the maximum permissible restriction, install a new filter element. Check the restriction again. If the restriction remains too high, inspect the air inlet piping for obstructions.Excessive Load
Ensure that the load is not excessive. Reduce the load. If necessary, disengage the driven equipment and test the engine.Exhaust Restriction
Measure the exhaust restriction during engine operation with a load. For data that is specific to your engine, refer to the Technical Marketing Information (TMI).Investigate the cause of the exhaust restriction. Perform adjustments and/or make repairs, as needed.Aftercooler (if applicable)
Normal intake manifold pressure with high exhaust temperature can be caused by blockage of the fins of the aftercooler core.If the application has an aftercooler, check the aftercooler for correct operation. Check for blockage in the cores of the aftercooler.Heavy Buildup of Deposits in the Cylinder or Internal Oil Leaks
Use a borescope to inspect the cylinders. Look for the following conditions:
Deposits on the valve seats
Deposits on the valve faces
Deposits on the cylinder walls that are above the upper limit of the piston stroke
