Use a hoist to remove heavy components. Use an adjustable lifting beam to lift the entire package. Use an adjustable lifting beam to lift the engine. All supporting members (chains and cables) should be parallel to each other. The chains and cables should be perpendicular to the top of the object that is being lifted.Some removals require lifting fixtures to obtain proper balance. Lifting fixtures also help to provide safety.Lifting eyes are designed and installed for each package. Alterations to the lifting eyes and/or the package make the lifting eyes and the lifting fixtures obsolete. If alterations are made, ensure that proper lifting devices are provided. Never bend the eyebolts and the brackets. Only load the eyebolts and the brackets under tension. Remember that the capacity of an eyebolt is less as the angle between the supporting members and the object becomes less than 90 degrees.When it is necessary to remove a component at an angle, only use a link bracket that is properly rated for the weight.

Improper lifting or tiedowns can allow load to shift and can cause injury and damage.

Label for lifting eye
The lifting labels are on the lifting eyes. These labels designate the proper lifting locations for the gensets. Some gensets may be lifted at the base of the genset. Use the configuration that is on the lifting label to lift the generator set. Use lifting devices that are properly rated for the weight of the generator set.

Note: Lifting a generator set with a fuel tank requires special equipment and procedures. Do not lift the unit with fuel in the fuel tank.
