Checking For Tilt Cylinder Plunger Leakage
1. Lift the blade from the ground and level the blade by eye.2. Measure the length of both tilt cylinders (from the center of the blade trunnion to the center of pin at the arm assembly).3. Calculate the average tilt cylinder length by adding the right and left cylinder lengths together and dividing by 2.4. With the blade lifted, tilt the blade left halfway through the tilt range.5. Measure the length of both tilt cylinders and calculate the average length.6. Mark both tilt cylinder rods with a grease pencil next to the seal so rod movement can be detected.7. Lower the blade and lift the front of the machine off the ground. Be careful not to activate the tilt valve at this time.8. Watch the grease pencil marks on either cylinder to detect instantaneous movement in either cylinder as the machine weight loads the hydraulic system.9. Measure the length of both tilt cylinders and calculate the average length.10. After waiting 5 to 10 minutes with the machine raised and not activating the hydraulic controls, measure the length of both tilt cylinders and calculate the average length.11. Repeat Step 4 through Step 10, tilting the blade to the right. The plungers and springs may not be functioning correctly if there is initial instantaneous motion in the short tilt cylinder when the machine is raised or subsequent change in the average length.Checking For Tolerance Stack Up In Angle Dozer
Any center pin binding effects caused by tolerance stack up in the bulldozer brace group, C-frame, and blade assembly can be eliminated by the relocation of the right and left tilt cylinder mounting brackets (1) on arm assembly (2).
1. Make sure all air is purged from the tilt hydraulic system. In order to purge the air, tilt completely to the right and then to the left several times.2. Tilt the blade assembly completely to the left or to the right in order to see which tilt cylinder completes its stroke first.3. Follow the steps in the appropriate section in order to calculate how far and in which direction to move the right and the left tilt cylinder mounting brackets. If Extending Tilt Cylinder Completes Its Stroke First
1. Calculate the distance right and left brackets need to move forwards by tilting the blade assembly to the right or left until the extending tilt cylinder bottoms. Then measure the remaining stroke in the retracting tilt cylinder.2. Multiply the measurement taken above by 0.464. The product from the calculation will be referred to as distance (X). Distance (X) is the distance that right and left brackets will be moved forward.3. Scribe marks on the right and left arm assemblies to indicate the current position of the brackets.4. Remove the right and left tilt cylinders.5. Using a cutting torch, remove the right and left brackets from the arm assemblies. Be careful not to damage the brackets or the arm assemblies when performing the cutting process. Also, be careful not to remove the
