This Program must be administered either before or after failure.In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS42783" as the Part Numberand "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description code.If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

PROBLEM
Some G3516E engines have shown cylinder liner polishing near the top of the cylinder. The cylinder polishing is not a failure mode. However, heavy cylinder polishing can lead to high oil consumption, increased blowby, and reduced cylinder compression. Oil consumption, blowby, and cylinder compression are determining factors for scheduling an in-frame overhaul. The cylinder liner polishing may lead to an in-frame overhaul interval shorter than specified in the Operation and Maintenance Manual (SEBU7681).
Another possible failure mode is that excessive oil consumption of a particular cylinder, may lead to detonation problems with that cylinder. The detonation is caused by the presence of oil during combustion or increased deposit levels.
