Location
The location of the generator must comply with all local regulations. The location of the generator must also comply with all special industrial regulations. Locate the generator in an area that meets the following requirements:
Clean
Dry
Well-ventilated
Easily accessible for inspection and maintenanceDo not obstruct air inlet openings. Do not obstruct discharge openings. Coolant flow must reach these openings. If the generator is exposed to harsh environmental conditions, the generator can be modified in the field in order to add filters and space heaters. In addition, a more rigid periodic maintenance schedule should be established.Ensure that the following foundation requirements are met:
The foundation must be strong, rigid, flat, and free from external vibration.
The natural frequency of the foundation together with the machine must not be within a 20% range of the running speed frequency.
The foundation must permit 2 mm (0.08 inch) shim plates to be placed under the feet of the machine. This ensures an adjustment margin and facilitates the possible future installation of a replacement machine.Flange Mounted Machine Installation on Steel Foundation
Illustration 1 g06119581A mounting flange can be used to ease installation and coupling connection. The mounting flange also allows easy inspection of the coupling during operation. Lift the machine and place onto the mounting flange. Slightly tighten the mounting bolts to secure.Alignment
To ensure efficient lifetimes of both the driving and the driven machine, the machines need to be properly aligned with each other. Radial and angular deviation between the two shafts of the machine must be minimized.Note: The alignment must be performed with caution. alignment errors will lead to bearing and shaft damages.Install the coupling halves of the driving and driven machines before beginning the alignment procedure. The coupling halves must be bolted together loosely. This ensures that the coupling halves may be moved freely in respect to each other during alignment.Rough Leveling
To facilitate alignment and enable the mounting of shims, jacking screws are fitted to the feet of the machine. Stand the machine on the jacking screws.Note: The machine must stand on all four feet on a plain parallel within 0.1 mm (0.004 inch). If not, the frame of the machine may become twisted or bent. A damaged frame can lead to damage to the bearing and damages to other parts of the machine.Ensure that the machine is vertically, horizontally, and axially leveled. Adjust by use of shims under the four feet.Rough Adjustment
