Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Disconnect hose assembly (2) from exhaust bypass valve (3) . Plug and cap all openings immediately.
Loosen the upper connection of tube assembly (1) . Disconnect tube assembly (1) at exhaust bypass valve (3) . Plug and cap all openings immediately.

The exhaust bypass valve cover is under spring compression. To prevent personal injury, use caution when removing the cover.
Disconnect tube assemblies (5) and (8) from tee block (7) . Plug and cap all openings immediately.
Remove tube assembly (6) . Plug and cap all openings immediately.
Evenly remove nuts (4) , bolts, and washers. Upon assembly, lubricate the threads and bearing surfaces of components (4) with Tooling (A) .
Remove exhaust bypass valve (3) . Remove the gasket from the adapter. Check the condition of the gasket. If the gasket is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.
