1. Disconnect cable assembly (2) from adapter assembly (4).2. Remove the bolts and clamps (3), and remove adapter assembly (4) from the cover assembly.3. Remove the bolts and cover assembly (1) from the flywheel housing.4. If necessary, remove the dowels, bearing and seal from the cover assembly. 5. Remove shaft (7) from adapter (6).6. Remove bolt (5) and adapter (6) from the camshaft. The following steps are for installation of the tachometer drive. 7. If dowels (8) were removed from cover assembly (1), install the dowels in the cover assembly until they extend 6.0 0.5 mm (.24 .02 in) above the surface of the cover assembly.8. If bearing (9) was removed from the cover assembly, install the bearing with tool (A) until it is 26 1 mm (1.02 .04 in) below the outside surface of the cover assembly. 9. If seal (10) was removed from the cover assembly, install the seal with tool (A) until the seal makes contact with the bottom of the bore in cover assembly (1). Make sure the lip of the seal is toward the bearing. Put clean engine oil on the lip of the seal.10. Put adapter (6) in position on the camshaft, and install bolt (5).11. Tighten the bolt for the single bolt adapter as follows:a. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 360 40 N m (270 30 lb ft).b. Tap the adapter with a hammer to seat the gear on the camshaft.c. Tighten the bolt again to a torque of 360 40 N m (270 30 lb ft).d. Repeat steps 11b and 11c until the torque does not change.
