Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the oil filter and the base. See Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Filter and Base - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Mark all hoses, lines, wires, and tubes for identification purposes. Cap all hoses, lines, and tubes in order to prevent foreign material from entering the system.Note: Drain all fluids in a suitable container for storage or disposal.

Remove engine oil cooler (1) from the engine block.

Remove gasket (2) from engine oil cooler (1) .

Remove O-ring seals (4) and gasket (3) from the engine block.Installation Procedure

Clean all mating surfaces. Replace gasket (3) and O-ring seals (4), if necessary. Install gasket (3) and O-ring seals (4) on the engine block.

Clean the mating surface. Replace gasket (2), if necessary. Install gasket (2) on engine oil cooler (1) .

Install engine oil cooler (1) to the engine block.Note: Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for all fluid capacities and the proper filling procedures.End By: Install the oil filter and the base. See Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Filter and Base - Install".
