Cat® Fleet Onboard Monitor Display (G407) may send large amount of broadcast traffic in certain IP range (165.26.78.0/23). The 459-2220 Monitor Display Gp (G407) service port is configured with a range of IP addresses that are used to connect the Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET). The proprietary messaging is being broadcast to a certain address. In a large installed base of G407 displays, the messages can create a large amount of broadcast traffic on the wireless network.Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem, but a permanent repair has not been identified. As an interim action, configure the onboard radio to block the IP address range from the Service Port of the G407. If the radio configuration is not possible, then follow one of the two options listed below:Note: Isolate the machine onboard network (internal to the machine) from the site-wide Cat® MineStar System network, using a managed switch or wireless radio that supports IP based address filtering.Option 1:
User can set a static Remote Programming Application (RPA) address in the topeconfig as shown below:RPA Static Address = IP Address is in the range of 165.26.78.2 - 165.26.78.255Configuration can also be accessed from the "Options" menu under "RPA Static IP".User needs to assign a different address for each device and to be managed manually. Detailed records need to be maintained for the entire Cat® Fleet G407 to ensure that IPs are not reused.Option 2:
Install managed switch that can be configured to block messages from or to addresses in the range of 165.26.78.0/23. A managed network switch can be added to the onboard system and configured to block the address range broadcasts from the G407.
