A 5P-3525 Piston Ring Compressor 1 Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before installation, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
Turn the crankshaft until the bearing journals are at the bottom center position.
Apply clean engine oil on the crankshaft journals and on the inside of the cylinder liners. Apply clean engine oil on the piston rings and the connecting rod bearings.
Position the piston ring gaps at 120 degrees away from each other.
Illustration 1 g01002934Note: Use the cylinder liner as a guide when you install Tooling (A).
Place Tooling (A) in position on the cylinder liner, as shown. Place the connecting rod and the piston in position in the original cylinder liner and into the ring compressor. Ensure that the "V" label on the piston is in alignment with the "V" label on the cylinder block.
Push the piston and the connecting rod into position over the crankshaft.

Apply clean engine oil on the bearings, the bolt threads and the nuts that make contact with the connecting rod caps. Place caps (1) in position on the connecting rods and install the nuts. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 40 4 N m (30 3 lb ft). Place a mark on each nut and the end of each bolt. Turn each nut an additional 90°. Note: When you install the connecting rod caps ensure that the number on the side of the cap matches the number on the side of the connecting rod.
Repeat Steps 1 through 6 for the remaining pistons. End By:
Install the oil pan plate. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Oil Pan Plate - Remove and Install" for the engine that is being serviced.
Install the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Install" for the engine that is being serviced.
Install the cylinder head. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Cylinder Head - Install" for the engine that is being serviced.
