At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Excessive metal particles in the oil or discoloration of the oil are an indication of an impending component failure. Locate and correct the source of the contamination to prevent component failure.

Open the left front engine access door.
Unscrew the container (1) for the cartridge.
Check the filter element that was removed from the housing. Note the types and amounts of contamination. If there is excessive contamination, drain the hydraulic tank. Refill the tank with clean oil. Change all filter elements.
Properly discard the filter element.
Thoroughly clean the holder and the filter casing. Check the seal ring in the casing and, change the seal ring if there is any damage.
Install a new filter element, lubricate the O-ring above the cartridge, and reinstall the container.
Close the left front engine access door.
