Introduction
Do not perform any of the following procedure until all the information is read and understood.A new Electronic Control Module (ECM) and software kit is available. The new parts allow for filling of the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank on an engine from a larger bulk DEF tank. The new kit includes the ECM and software only. A kit including the motor, relay, and wiring will have to be purchased through a third-party provider.Required Parts

Illustration 1 g03686765The A5M8 ECM should be mounted off the engine.The A5M8ECM must be supplied with power and ground from the battery. The keyswitch and CAN A wiring must be wired in from the engine ECM. The CAN A wiring harness to the A5M8 ECM may need modification to move the terminating resistor to the end of the wiring harness, if the harness length exceeds 1 m (3.28 ft).Note: The motor, relay, and wiring will be supplied by the customer.Operation
When the engine DEF tank level drops below 25%, the A5M8 ECM will receive a message that the tank level is low. The A5M8 ECM will then command the relay on. The relay will power the motor and allow DEF to flow from the bulk DEF tank into the engine DEF tank in the Pump Electronics Tank Unit (PETU) assembly. When the engine DEF tank level reaches 90%, the A5M8 ECM will command off the relay. If the relay has been commanded on for 11 minutes and the engine DEF tank level is below 90%, the relay will be commanded off. The relay will stay off until the keyswitch has been cycled and the A5M8 ECM commands the relay on again.
