Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Open the access door that is located between the operator platforms.

Disconnect hose assemblies (2) from motor (1).

Open the rear access door that is located on the right side of the machine.
Loosen the screws and open the lid for electrical box (6).
Disconnect wires (3) and (5) from circuit breaker (4).

Remove the locknut and remove terminal bushing (7) and harness assembly (8) from electrical box (6).

Disconnect harness assembly (11).
Use a suitable lifting device in order to support bracket (10) and generator (12). The weight of the bracket and generator is approximately 85 kg (187 lb). Remove bolts (9) and (13) and remove bracket (10) and generator (12) from the machine.

Remove nuts (19) and remove motor (1) from generator (12).
Remove the locknut and remove terminal bushing (14) from electrical box (6).
Remove bolts (15) and remove electrical box (6), seal (17), and duct assembly (16) from generator (12).
Attach a suitable lifting device to generator (12). Remove bolts (18) and remove generator (12) and the shock absorbers from bracket (10). The weight of the generator is approximately 72 kg (159 lb).
