(3) Axle housingLeft axle (1) and right axle (2) are at the rear of the machine on the left and right. Access is from under the machine or via side-skirts.Each axle consists of a final drive housing which contains bevel gearing and planetary reduction gearing. Final drive ratio is a three-stage geared reduction of 36.8:1. A parking brake assembly is mounted to the front of each axle, between the propel motor and the axle.Left axle (1) and right axle (2) are identical. Each axle is composed of axle housing (3) to which the remaining components and sections are attached.

(8) Output flangeAxle housing (3) of left axle (1) and right axle (2) each contains bevel gearing. The bevel gearing redirects power from 90 degrees to the axle shaft with a reduction.The bevel gearing consists of pinion gear (6) and bevel gear (5). The pinion gear is driven by the propel motor. The pinion gear drives the bevel gear at 90 degrees. The bevel gear is mounted to gear carrier (4). The gear carrier has internal splines which engage axle shaft (7) to transmit power to the planetary gearing systems and output flange (8).

(16) Sun gearLeft axle (1) and right axle (2) each contains two extra reduction gear sections. The first planetary reduction is closest to axle housing (3) and is driven by axle shaft (7). The second planetary gear reduction is driven by first reduction planet carrier (15).Power is transmitted from axle shaft (7) to first reduction sun gear (14) through a fixed spline connection. The sun gear drives planet gears (9) which spin freely in planet carrier (15). The planet gears engage ring-gear teeth (not shown) around the inside diameter of stationary reduction support (10). This action also causes the planet carrier to rotate, with a reduction.Second reduction sun gear (16) is connected to the internally splined first reduction planet carrier (15). These two components rotate together. The sun gear drives planet gears (9) which spin on stationary planet gear studs (11) of reduction support (10). The planet gears engage internal ring gear (12) of output flange (8), thereby driving the output flange.
