Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
Remove the aftercooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Aftercooler - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove six bolts (1) that fasten bonnet (2) to aftercooler (3) .
Remove bonnet (2) from aftercooler (3) .

Remove O-ring seal (4) from bonnet (2). Inspect the O-ring seal for wear or damage. If the O-ring seal is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.
Inspect zinc rod (5) and dowel (6) for wear or damage. If the zinc rod or the dowel is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.

Remove six bolts (8) that fasten bonnet (7) to the aftercooler.
Remove bonnet (7) from the aftercooler.

Remove O-ring seals (9) and (10) from bonnet (7). Inspect the O-ring seals for wear or damage. If the O-ring seals are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

Carefully remove aftercooler core (11) from aftercooler (3). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Aftercooler Core - Clean/Test" for more information on cleaning the aftercooler core.
Remove O-ring seal (12) from aftercooler (3). Inspect the O-ring seal for wear or damage. If the O-ring seal is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.
