Implement ECM 8 VDC Power Supply connections
The CID 0041 diagnostic code is associated with the Implement ECM 8 VDC Power Supply. The 8 VDC Power Supply provides power for the sensors that are shown in the connection diagram. The FMI 03 indicates that the ECM has detected that the voltage of the 8 VDC power supply circuit is above normal. The following conditions could cause the ECM to activate this diagnostic code:
The power supply circuit is shorted to a higher voltage source in the machine harness or in a harness connector.
The ECM has failed. Note: The following test procedure may cause other diagnostic codes to be activated. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the problem has been corrected. Ensure that the CID 0041 FMI 03 diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK THE POWER SUPPLY AT THE ECM
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
At Implement ECM harness connector J1, use a 151-6320 Removal Tool to remove the supply wire and socket at contact J1-44 (wire A105-OR(Orange)). The connector remains connected to the ECM.
At Implement ECM harness connector J1, insert the negative side 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the return circuit contact J1-45 (wire X719-OR(Orange)).
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Insert the positive side multimeter probe through the vacant slot in the J1 harness connector where the supply circuit wire was removed. Make contact on the ECM connector pin for the 8 VDC Power Supply. Measure the voltage between the ECM pin at J1-44 and the return contact J1-45. Expected Result:The voltage measurement is 8.0 0.3 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage measurement is 8.0 0.3 VDC. The voltage is correct. The ECM power supply circuit is correct. Install the wire and socket that were removed from the J1 connector back into the original location. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The voltage measurement is greater than 8.0 0.3 VDC. The ECM power supply is not correct. The ECM has failed.Repair: Prior to replacing an ECM, contact the dealership Technical Communicator for possible consultation with Caterpillar. If the ECM requires replacement, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT A COMPONENT
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from one of the components that is listed in the illustration at the beginning of this procedure.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
At the machine harness connector for the disconnected component, measure the voltage between the supply circuit (wire A105-OR(Orange)) and the return circuit (wire X719-OR(Orange)). Expected Result:The voltage measurement is greater than 8.0 0.3 VDC.Results:
YES - The voltage measurement is greater than 8.0 0.3 VDC. The circuit is shorted to a higher voltage source. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NO - The voltage measurement is 8.0 0.3 VDC. The measurement is
