Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the valve mechanism cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Loosen the locknut in order to loosen adjusting screws (2) on each rocker arm about one rotation.
Remove five head bolts (1) from the rocker shaft. When you remove head bolts (1) start with the outside and work toward the center.
Remove the rocker shaft.Note: Check the contact surface of the adjusting screw for wear from the pushrods and check for threads that are stripped.

Put identification marks on pushrods (4) in order to identify the location of the pushrods in the engine.
Remove eight pushrods (4) from the cylinder head.Note: Check pushrods for worn ends and check for distortion. If necessary, replace any pushrods that are worn or distorted.
Remove valve caps (3) from each valve stem. This will prevent the valve cap from becoming lost.Note: Check the contact surface of the valve caps for wear and check for oil passages that are clogged.
