The original article has been revised to remove four serial numbers.At some installations, corrosion and contamination have developed in the vane-type 7C-3372 Air Starting Motor Gp due to the following factors:
Debris in the air supply lines
Moisture in the air supply
Insufficient lubrication or improper adjustment of the lubricator flow rateAn alternative turbine-type air starting motor is available for service or for new engines. The new 382-9606 Air Starting Motor Gp has the following advantages:
Does not require lubrication
Does not require filtered air, however, use of a 40 mesh strainer is recommended
Uses ball bearings that do not require lubrication, which eliminates the possibility of contaminated oil or insufficient lubricationNote: The new 382-9606 Air Starting Motor Gp has an Ampseal connector, which is different than the Surseal connector in the vane-type air starting motor. The new starting motor requires the 399-1522 Air Starting Wiring for connecting to the engine harness.

Pressurized air connection for the 1-1/2 NPT air inlet on the starting motor     1    Remove the Vane-Type Starting Motor
Shut off the pressurized air supply to the starting motor.
Purge any remaining pressurized air from the air lines for the starting motor.

Disconnect the air supply from elbow (1) for the air lines.
Disconnect harness (2) from the starting motor solenoid.
Disconnect the air lines from the starting motor. Remove the air lines.
Attach a suitable lifting devise to the starting motor.The starting motor weighs approximately 41 kg (90 lb).
Remove three bolts (3) and remove the starting motor. Keep the bolts for reuse.
Make sure that the gasket for the starting motor is removed from the flywheel housing.Install the Turbine-Type Starting Motor
