Pressurized system: Hot coolant can cause serious burn. To open cap, stop engine, wait until radiator is cool. Then loosen cap slowly to relieve the pressure.
Mixing ELC with other products will reduce the effectiveness of the coolant.This could result in damage to cooling system components.If Caterpillar products are not available and commercial products must be used, make sure they have passed the Caterpillar EC-1 specification for pre-mixed or concentrate coolants and Caterpillar Extender.
Note: This machine is shipped with Extended Life Coolant. Extended Life Coolant is recommended for use.Drain the coolant whenever the coolant is dirty. Drain the coolant whenever the coolant starts to foam.

This cap is a two stage cap. To remove the cap, slowly twist the cap 360 degrees to relieve the system pressure. Then, the cap can be twisted another 360 degrees for removal.

The drain valve is located at the rear door of the machine on the bottom right corner of the radiator. Open the access panel at the back of the cooling package.
Open the drain valve. Allow the coolant to drain into a suitable container.
Close the drain valve. Fill the system with a solution which consists of clean water and of cooling system cleaner. The concentration of the cooling system cleaner in the solution should be between 6 percent and 10 percent.
Start the engine. Run the engine for 90 minutes. Stop the engine. Drain the cleaning solution into a suitable container.
While the engine is stopped, flush the system with water. Flush the system until the draining water is transparent.
Close the drain valve.

Start the engine. Run the engine without the cap for the overflow tank until the thermostat opens and the coolant level stabilizes.

Maintain the coolant level between the ADD and FULL marks on the overflow tank.
Install the cap for the overflow tank.
Stop the engine.
Replace the access panel. Close the rear door. Flushing the Extended Life Coolant From the Cooling System
Some engines utilize Extended Life Coolant. See the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Maintenance Interval Schedule" in order to determine the service interval. If Extended Life Coolant was previously used, flush the cooling system with clean water. No other cleaning agents are required.Flushing a Standard Coolant From the Cooling System
If you change the coolant of a machine to Extended Life Coolant from another type of coolant, use a Cat cleaning agent to flush the cooling system. After you drain the cooling system, thoroughly flush the cooling system with clean water. All of the cleaning agent must be removed from the cooling system.
