Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
Test Step 1. Check the Position of The Engine Shutdown Switch.
A. Check whether the Engine Shutdown Switch is pushed in or pulled out.
The Engine Shutdown Switch is pushed in. OK – The Engine Shutdown Switch is pushed in.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK – The Engine Shutdown Switch is not pushed in.
Repair: Push the Engine Shutdown Switch IN. The engine stops.
STOP.
Test Step 2. The Engine Shutdown Switch has failed.
A. Remove the connector from the switch.
B. With the knob pulled out, measure the resistance between pins 1 and 2 and between pins 1 and 3.
C. Record the results.
D. Push the Knob in. Measure the resistance between pins 1 and 2 and between pins 1 and 3.
E. Record the results.
Refer to Table 1.
The resistance measurements meet the specifications in Table 1. OK – The resistance measurements meet the specifications in Table 1.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Not OK – The resistance measurements do not meet the specifications in the table above.
Repair: Replace the Engine Shutdown Switch and check the machine operation.
STOP.
Test Step 3. The Harness Between the Engine Shutdown Switch and the Engine ECM has failed.
Using the system electrical schematic, check the harness and connectors between the Engine Shutdown Switch and the ECM for:
Wire to wire shorts
Shorts to ground
Shorts to power
Open circuits
There are no defects in the harness or connectors between the Engine Shutdown Switch and the ECM. OK – There are no defects in the harness or connectors between the Engine Shutdown Switch and the ECM.
STOP.
Not OK – Defects are found in the harness.
Repair: Repair or replace the harness.
STOP.
