A high pressure fuel line must be disconnected. To avoid personal injury or fire from fuel spray, the engine must be stopped before the fuel line is disconnected.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Disconnect six nuts (1) from the valve cover bases.
Use Tool (A) to disconnect six nuts (2) from the fuel injection pump housing.
Remove the bolts that hold the brackets for the fuel injection lines (3) .
Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over disconnected fuel system component.
Remove the fuel injection lines as a unit. Plug and cap all openings.Installation Procedure
Fuel injection lines that are bent, damaged, or rubbing against surfaces can leak and cause a fire. Replace any lines that are bent, or damaged when tightened to the correct torque. Correct or replace any lines that are rubbing when tightened to the correct torque.
Ensure that the fuel injection line clamps are installed in the correct locations. Incorrectly installed clamps may allow the fuel injection lines to vibrate and become damaged. The damaged lines may leak and cause a fire.

Remove the plugs and caps. Install the fuel injection lines as a unit.
Hand tighten nuts (2) to the fuel injection pump housing. Hand tighten nuts (1) to the valve cover bases.
Install the bolts that hold the brackets for the fuel injection lines (3) to the engine.
Use Tool (A) and tighten the fuel line nuts (2) on the fuel injection pump housing to a torque of 40 7 N m (30 5 lb ft).
Tighten the fuel line nuts (1) on the valve cover base to a torque of 40 7 N m (30 5 lb ft).
Tighten the screws on the fuel line clamps to 2.3 N m (20 lb in), if necessary.
Purge the air from the fuel system.
