From the water pump, coolant is sent through engine oil cooler (7). From the engine oil cooler, part of the coolant is sent to air compressor (4) and to turbochargers (5). Most the coolant is sent through engine block (3) .Coolant flows into the water jacket of the block at the front of the engine. Coolant is directed to both sides of the engine block through distribution manifolds. The distribution manifolds are connected to the water jacket for all the cylinders.The coolant flows upward through the water jackets of the engine block. The coolant flows around the cylinder liners from the bottom to the top. Near the top of the cylinder liners, the water jacket is tapered and the cooling jacket becomes smaller. This is the area that has the hottest temperature. This smaller area causes the coolant flow to increase for better cooling of the cylinder liner. Coolant from the top of the liners flows into the cylinder head which sends the coolant around the components of the cylinder head. Coolant flows to the top of each cylinder head. Coolant flows back down into the block and returns into the front housing. The coolant is sent to the outlet elbow. Coolant for the low-pressure turbochargers is supplied from the left and right side of the front housing. Coolant flows through the outer turbochargers into the middle turbochargers. The coolant is combined after flowing through the turbochargers, and returns to the top tank.The water temperature regulator is controlled by the temperature control module. The temperature control module receives a temperature setpoint from the engine's Electronic Control Module (ECM). As the water temperature regulator is opened, coolant is sent through the bypass line back to the inlet of the water pump. As the temperature of the coolant increases, the regulator is opened. Coolant flow in the bypass line is restricted, when the regulators open. Coolant is sent through the outlets to the radiator.

The coolant supply line (9) divides the coolant supply flow to each of the high-pressure turbochargers. The coolant flow is combined after flowing through each of the high-pressure turbos. The coolant returns to the top tank of the radiator through return line (11).
