Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Cap and plug all lines, hoses, and tubes to prevent fluid loss and to prevent contaminants from entering the system.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
1. Connect the steering frame lock link. See the topic "Separate & Connect Steering Frame Lock Link" in this module.2. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to the topic "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" in this module. 3. Remove and plug three tube assemblies (1) from the selector and pressure control valve (2). 4. Remove the two bolts, the nuts, and washers (3) and remove the selector and pressure control valve (2). The following steps are for the installation of the selector and pressure control valve.5. Ensure that all parts of the selector and pressure control valve are thoroughly clean and free of dirt and debris.6. Check the condition of all O-ring seals used in the selector and pressure control valve and hydraulic tube assemblies. If any of the seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement. Lubricate seals with the lubricant being sealed.7. Install the selector and pressure control valve in the reverse order of removal.8. Separate the steering frame lock link. Refer to the topic "Steering Frame Lock Link, Separate & Connect" in this module.Disassemble & Assemble Selector & Pressure Control Valve
Start By:a. remove selector and pressure control valve 1. Remove elbow (1) and seal from the valve group. Remove plug (2) and seal from the valve group. 2. Remove check valve (3), seal (4), stem (5), spring (6), spacers (7), seal (8), adapter (9), seal (10) and elbow (11) from the valve group. The following steps are for the assembly of the selector and pressure control valve.3. Ensure that all parts of the selector and pressure control valve are thoroughly clean prior to assembly.4. Check the condition of all O-ring seals used in the pilot control valve. If any of the parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Lubricate seals with the lubricant being sealed. 5. Install seal (4) on check valve (3) and install check valve in the valve group. Install stem (5), spring (6), and spacers (7) in the valve group. Install thicker spacer (7) so it is in contact with spring (6). Install thinner spacer (7) so it will be in contact with adapter (9). Place O-ring seal (8) on adapter (9) and install adapter in the valve group. Place O-ring seal (10) on elbow (11) and install elbow in
