Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Main Drive Shaft - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
Remove the power train oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Power Train Oil Pump - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.
Remove the implement pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, SENR8491, "Implement Pump - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Drain all fluids in a suitable container for storage or disposal.

Remove hydraulic hose assembly (1) .

Remove hose assembly (2) from the torque converter outlet relief valve.
Remove hose assembly (3) and (4) from the torque converter housing.
Disconnect wire harness (5) and remove the clip that secures the harness.

Install a 12 mm lifting eye (6) and a hoist to the torque converter.
Remove bolts (7) that secure the torque converter to the flywheel housing.
Install two 10 mm forcing screws in the flange of the torque converter housing and tighten evenly.
Remove the torque converter from the flywheel housing and lower to the ground. The weight of the torque converter is 113 kg (250.0 lb).
