When approaching a long, steep downgrade, reduce the travel speed, downshift and use the retarder.
Do not shift into NEUTRAL and freewheel down grade.If the brake oil temperature rises above the GREEN range, reduce the travel speed, or stop the vehicle until the oil cools.
Travel at the safest, practical speed, depending on the haul road conditions.Watch for and obey flagmen in traveled areas.When dumping the load, do not back too close to the edge of cliffs or overhangs.Be sure the dumping area is clear of personnel.Using Traction Aid (Manual type if equipped)
The traction aid system is used to increase traction at the drive wheels. This is done by partially braking either the left or right drive wheels as they start to spin. The traction aid lever is located at the right side of the steering column, below the retarder control lever.In the neutral, or center position (2), the traction aid has no brake effect.Pulling the lever down to (3), causes the right wheel brake to resist tire spin.Pushing the lever up to (1), causes the left wheel brake to resist tire spin.
