If the swing dampener (snubber) is not properly tightened, the grapple can swing freely. This could cause personal injury to nearby personnel.Make sure that the area around the grapple is clear of personnel before you check the swing dampener (snubber).

Bunching HeadIn order to achieve the longest life of the components for the snubber, the operation of the snubber should be monitored constantly. The snubber adjustment should be kept in order for the grapple to swing freely. The adjustment should be tight enough to avoid damaging contact with the arch or the boom while the grapple arms (tongs) are empty. Excessive torque of the snubber will lead to premature wear of the friction material.

Components of the Snubber (1) Bolt. (2) Nut lock. (3) Nut. (4) Spacer. (5) Spring assembly. (6) Friction disc. (7) Link (Snubber). (8) Sleeve bearing. (9) Retaining ring. (10) Lip seal. (11) Retainer. (12) Pin.
For snubbers with conical friction discs (6), check for extrusion of conical friction discs (6). If extrusion is evident, the snubber will not work properly and conical friction discs (6) must be replaced. If link (7) is against retainer (11) conical friction discs (6) are worn. Replace the conical friction discs.
Check link (7), retainer (11), and sleeve bearing (8) for damage. If necessary, replace link (7), retainer (11), and sleeve bearing (8) .

To adjust the snubber, remove bolt (1) and plate (2) .
For snubbers with conical friction discs, tighten nut (3) until the desired swing of the grapple is achieved. As a reference, the snubber is set to the following torque at the factory.Conical Friction Discs ... 300 30 N m (220 22 lb ft)Note: The machine is equipped with a wrench for tightening nut (3) .
Install plate (2) and bolt (1). Tighten bolt (1) to a torque of 460 60 N m (340 45 lb ft).
