Information:

to replacing the Monitor, if possible, the operator must create a Monitor replacement file. This action is done by doing the following procedure:
Go to Service Menu in Cat ET.
Go to Copy Configuration
After being prompted to load existing backup file, click cancle.
After being prompted to load from ECM now, click yes.
Select Instrument Cluster #1, click yes.
After file has been backed up, select save to file
A file name will be auto-generated. Note to file name.. Click Save.
Once Cat ET saves successfully, click OKEnsure that replacement of the Monitor is necessary prior to replacement of the Monitor. The Monitor is seldom the cause of a diagnostic code. Always check that the proper ground and power are available to the Monitor. Before replacing Monitor, it is recommended that dealer service staff contact the Monitor Hotline help desk. The Monitor Hotline will provide guidance to determine if a Monitor needs replaced. Dealer Technical Communicators have contact information for the Monitor Hotline. Note: New electronic control modules are available either pre-programmed for a particular machine or the Monitor is not programmed. A Monitor that has not been programmed must be programmed by using the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (Module) - Flash Program". See item 6 in order to determine whether the Monitor has been programmed.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness from the Monitor.
Remove the Monitor.
Ensure that the replacement Monitor has the correct part number.
Connect the machine harness to the Monitor.
Determine whether the Monitor has been programmed. Connect the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector. The ET communicates to the Monitor.The ET will indicate whether the Monitor has been programmed. A Monitor that has not been programmed must be programmed by using the WinFlash software which is contained in the ET. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (Module) - Flash Program".The ET will provide access to the Monitor, if the Monitor has already been programmed.Note: Some Variations in the ET menu may be experienced. View the proper subject for information about a specific ET menu.Note: Performance will be affected by ANY calibration procedures that are omitted. Make sure that all calibration procedures are performed. Perform all calibration procedures, even if the replacement Monitor was acquired from a similar machine.Note: The profile of the operator will be lost when the Monitor is replaced.
