1. Walk around the machine and check for: Any unusual conditions that could be dangerous.Anybody working on, under or near the machine.Leaks, loose bolts, loose or missing safety shields or guards.Be sure any previously noted malfunction has been corrected. If it has not, report it immediately to the proper maintenance authority. 2. Mount the machine carefully to prevent falls. Use the ladder provided on the screed. 3. Remove any loose tools, rags, lunch buckets, or other objects that might trip you, from the operator's platform and store them in a safe place. 4. After checking hydraulic oil, fuel, coolant and lubricating oil levels, be sure all caps are secured tightly. Fuel or oil vapors could ignite. 5. To avoid unexpected movement of the machine or its components, be sure all controls, except the parking brake, are at neutral or off before starting the engine. The parking brake should be on. 6. Before starting the engine, sound the horn for several seconds to warn personnel and allow them time to clear the machine.
