There have been a number of isolated instances of a lack of welds on the 261-6455 Fuel Tank Base As on certain C1.5, C2.2 and C4.4 Generator Sets.Where fill tubes protrude from the inner fuel base tank through the outer skin tank, there are no welds to seal the gaps between the fill tubes and the outer skin tank. This allows rain water to pass through the gaps and quickly fill the inner tank bund. There is not enough protrusion of the fill tubes above the outer skin to allow a sealing weld to be applied.On certain generator sets that have a gap between protruding fill tubes of the base inner tank and the outer skin tank, polyurethane adhesive sealant is now applied during manufacture. This prevents any ingress of rain water to the inner tank bund. Caterpillar recommends the use of Loctite 3370 Black for service. Sikaflex 255FC or equivalent specification polyurethane adhesive sealant may also be used.
