The correct torque specification should be 48 7 N m (35 5 lb ft).
--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------Several changes have been made to the fuel systems used on 3408B Engines. The changes include the use of a new, heavy duty fuel injection pump and governor group, fuel lines, fuel injection nozzle and fuel injection nozzle adapter.
These changes are in effect with the engine serial numbers that follow.
Fuel Injection Pump And Governor Group
A heavy duty fuel injection pump and governor group is now used. The fuel pump has steel lifters with wider rollers to more evenly distribute the load on the fuel pump camshaft. The change to the fuel pump and governor group will give better service life to the fuel pump camshaft and lifters.
Fuel Injection Nozzle
A new fuel injection nozzle is used. The 4W7018 Nozzle Assembly requires the use of a new fuel nozzle adapter to hold the fuel injection nozzle in the cylinder head. A new 7W4482 Copper Washer (gas seal) is used with the new fuel injection nozzle. The specified torques for the new adapters and retainer are shown in the chart that follows.
Fuel Lines Group
A new fuel lines group is used. The inside diameter of the new fuel line is 1.83 mm (.072"). A new 5B1484 Nut goes through the valve cover.
The fuel line part numbers are shown in the chart.
Timing
Some of the new 3408B Engines have fixed fuel pump timing. See the Service Manual Specification Module for specific engine timing.
Turbochargers
Different turbochargers are used on some 3408B Engines. The new turbochargers will give better performance.
