Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Only perform this test if the steering wheel does not return to the center position correctly. When you remove the line to the tank in order to install the swivel tee, oil will drain from both the metering pump and the line to the tank. The oil must be able to drain into a suitable container.

Remove the line (1) to the tank from the metering pump. Install a 6V-9510 Face Seal Plug into the line to the tank.
Install the 7X-0872 Swivel Tee (2) onto the metering pump. Point the port downward.
Install a 3J-1907 O-Ring Seal onto a 6V-3965 Fitting .
Install the 6V-3965 Fitting into the port on the swivel tee.
Remove the face seal plug from the line to the tank.
Attach the line (1) to the swivel tee (2) .
Attach a 6V-4142 Nonvalved Nipple on one end of a 6V-3014 Hose Assembly (3) .
Attach a 6V-4143 Coupler (4) on the second end of the 6V-3014 Hose Assembly (3) .
Place a 6V-4144 Coupler on a 8T-0855 Pressure Gauge .
Place the 6V-4142 Nonvalved Nipple into the 6V-4144 Coupler .
Attach the 6V-4143 Coupler to the 6V-3965 Fitting .
Start the machine. Raise
