The booklet, "SIRS User Instructions" gives step-by-step usage instructions for the Service Information Retrieval System (SIRS). SIRS is a series of microfiche indexes and libraries containing service information for Caterpillar products.
Because SIRS can appear confusing to people who do not use it regularly, every effort has been made to make "SIRS User Instructions" practical and highly usable in the shop environment. Starting with just basic data about a machine, such as its serial number or sales model number, service personnel can quickly extract any amount of service information they need from the microfiche library by following the procedures in the "SIRS User Instructions." For example, someone may want to locate an article written in a past issue of Service Magazine. Page 4 of this booklet has complete instructions for selecting the correct SIRS library and how to locate the specific article within that library.
Also included in this 24 page, black and white publication are general instructions for handling microfiche, detailed instructions for using each separate SIRS library, and a handy quick reference chart.
The chart (on the back page) provides a very useful summary of what the serviceman has to know and which SIRS library to use in order to find the needed information. This chart will soon be available on a small card for insertion into your microfiche library holders.
