Problem
The existing front wheel may crack on certain 789 Trucks. The cracks begin, behind the duo-cone seal retainer, in the radius where the spline meets the vertical shoulder at 90 degrees.

Action Required
Inspect for cracks when the front wheel group is disassembled for brake repairs or other overhauls. The Duo-Cone seal retainer must be removed to make the inspection. The crack may not be visible to the unaided eye. Use a dye penetrant to determine if a crack exists.
After verifying whether or not a crack exists, file a SIMS Report and state whether or not a crack was found.
Install the new parts whether or not a crack is found.
Service Claim Allowances
The inspection for cracks is to be performed when the front wheel group is disassembled for brake repairs or other overhauls.
If there has been a previous repair, part age will apply. Retain a copy of the previous repair in the dealer's records for audit purposes, and specify repair date and machine hours in the "Additional Comments" section of the warranty claim.
