There have been a number of isolated instances of issues with the fuel injection pump on 3054C, C3.3, and C4.4 (Mech) engines. These issues with the fuel injection pump cause the engine to run rough, suffer from low power, issues with starting the engine, and excessive smoke.The timing mechanism within the fuel injection pump can loose injection timing control due to a machined core plug becoming dislodged. This damaged occurs when air is not correctly purged from the fuel system or air is entering the system during normal operation.The machined core plug within the fuel injection pump timing mechanism has been replaced with an improved screw plug design. This improved design has made the fuel injection pump more robust from damage caused by air.The part number of the fuel injection pump has not changed.Ensure that air is removed from the fuel system after any repair has been carried out. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime" for the correct procedure.
