Information:
Do not use the retarder control as a parking brake.Do not use the retarder control to stop the machine.
Pay attention to your surroundings. Keep a safe distance from any machines in front of your machine.Do not drive over unprotected power cables. Do not drive under low-power cables.Know the maximum height of the machine. Know the maximum width of the machine. Maintain proper clearances. For dump body machines always travel with the hoist control in the FLOAT position. For ejector body machines always travel with the hoist control in the HOLD position.Shift to the top speed that is anticipated. All further shifts will be automatic.During normal operation, use the service brake for all normal braking.Roads can be slick from being wet. Reduce the speed of the machine in order to compensate for poor ground conditions.Operator Present Strategy
When operating the machine you must perform one of the following actions within 4 seconds or the parking brake will engage, the implement and steering functions will neutralize and the engine will stop.
Apply the service brake
Maintain engine speed above 750 rpm
Maintain ground speed above 5 km/h (3.1 mph)When the machine is stopped perform one of the following actions within 4 seconds or the parking brake will engage, the implement and steering functions will neutralize and the engine will stop.
Apply the service brake
Maintain engine speed above 750 rpm
Engage the parking brakeAlso, to operate the steering and implement functions with the parking brake engaged perform the following action.
Maintain engine speed above 1500 rpm.If the operator present strategy stops the engine, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Starting the Engine".Maneuvering in Tight Quarters
When maneuvering the machine at less than 5 km/h (3.1 mph) slightly depress the service brake pedal, in order to prevent the operator present strategy from engaging the parking brake and stopping the engine.Traveling Down a Grade
Never coast down a grade in neutral. Always keep the transmission in gear. The power train/chassis ECM will not allow a shift from forward gear into neutral or into reverse, when the machine speed is greater than 5 km/h (3 mph).

When you approach a downgrade that is long or steep, Automatic Retarder Control (ARC) switch (1) should be in the ON position. Select the desired gear before you start the downgrade. The actual gear of the transmission should also match the selected gear before you start the downgrade. Determine the proper gear for the conditions, the load, and the downgrade. If you do not know the proper gear, use the common practice of selecting the gear that is required to go up the grade when the machine is loaded. For further information, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Retarding" for the machine that is being serviced.Preventing Overspeed
Illustration 2 g01033371
If the machine builds up excessive speed, use retarder control (2) in order to reduce the machine speed. If braking force is needed, use the service brake.Note: If the engine reaches 2565 rpm in any programmed top gear, the torque converter lockup clutch will disengage.
Do not shift into the NEUTRAL position and
