Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) may present the following active diagnostic trouble codes:J1939
3473- 7 Aftertreatment #1 Failed to Ignite : Not Responding Properly
3473-11 Aftertreatment #1 Failed to Ignite : Other Failure Mode
3473-12 Aftertreatment #1 Failed to Ignite : Failure
3713-7 DPF Active Regeneration Inhibited Due to System Timeout :Not Responding Properly
3713-31 DPF Active Regeneration Inhibited Due to System TimeoutOther diagnostic trouble codes may appear depending upon the engine and application configuration. Refer to Troubleshooting for more information. These diagnostic trouble codes may be caused by an issue with the combustion within the Aftertreatment Regeneration Device (ARD).Solution
If the above diagnostic trouble codes are present, follow the procedure detailed below:
Connect the electronic service tool.
Download the 'Product Status Report' by selecting the following menus within the electronic service tool:
"Information"
"Product Status Report"
Set up a Data Log by selecting the following menus within the electronic service tool:
"Information"
"Data Log"
"Recorder"In the "Data Log Recorder Settings", set the "Sample Rate" to 20 per minute, set the "Duration" to 5 hours and set the "Pre-Trigger" to 5 seconds.
Set the following ECM parameters to be recorded during the "Data Log":
Aftertreatment #1 Diesel Oxidation Catalyst Intake Gas Temperature
Particulate Trap Intake Gas Temperature
Exhaust Gas Temperature 1
Engine Coolant Temperature
Intake Manifold Air Temperature
Barometric Pressure
Particulate Trap Differential Pressure
Intake Manifold Pressure (Gauge)
Engine Oil Pressure (Gauge)
Actual Engine Speed
Desired Engine Speed
Engine Load Factor
Main Fuel Rack Percentage
Battery Voltage
DPF Status
DPF Active Regeneration Status
DPF #1 Soot Loading Percent
DPF #1 Time Since Last Active Regeneration
DPF Lamp Command
Start the "Data Log" recording.
While the "Data Log" recorder is running, perform a service regeneration by selecting the following menus within the electronic service tool:
"Service"
"Service Procedures"
"Manual Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration"

Typical example
If the service regeneration has been successful, submit a ticket through the Dealer Solution Network (DSN), providing the following information:
Product Status Report (before regeneration)
Engine geographic location
Information regarding the engines load and speed usage (for example, high load, light load, extended low idle operating)
Data Log in .sdf file format
Aftertreatment Regeneration Device (ARD) part number (1)
If the service regeneration has been unsuccessful, download the 'Product Status Report' by selecting the following menus within the electronic service tool:
"Information"
"Product Status Report"
Submit a ticket through the DSN, providing the following information:
Product Status Report (before regeneration)
Product Status Report (after regeneration)
Engine geographic location
Information regarding the engines load and speed usage (for example, high load, light load, extended low idle operating)
Data Log in .sdf file format
Aftertreatment Regeneration Device (ARD) part number (1) The DSN personnel will review the supplied data with the Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) team investigating the issue and will provide advice on how to proceed in returning the engine back into service.
