Use an air carbon arc torch, or other suitable tool, to remove any cracks from the area around the cylinder mounting bosses and the plug welds on either side of the mounting bosses. Reweld the areas with low hydrogen rod. Grind the welds smooth.3. Weld the plates in position as shown in Illustration 4 (top view) and Illustration 5 (side view). Note that the welds run a continuous extension of a root pass and fillet weld to a length of 25 mm (1.0") tapering to 3 mm (.12") height in that distance at the end points of the plates as shown on Illustration 5.
