Inspection for Excessive Wear of the Quick Coupler
Note: Inspect the coupler for damage prior to rework. If necessary, repair the coupler. Replace the coupler if the coupler is beyond repair.

(1A) GapThe following measurements must be made with a known good, straight lock pin. Replace bent lock pin prior to initiating the following inspections. Gap (1A) must not exceed 30 mm (1.181 inch) when the hook is against the lock pin. Proceed to ""Rework Procedure for the Quick Coupler"" for the rework procedure if the 30 mm (1.181 inch) dimension is exceeded.Note: Attach a known good bucket or a work tool in order to inspect the coupler. See Table 7 for the dimension of the bucket pin spread. Load the actuating lever against the lock pin in order to inspect the coupler. The maximum allowable gap between the face of the connecting pin for the work tool and the hook can be found in Table 8. If this dimension is exceeded, recondition the coupler in order to attain a tighter fitup of the work tool.

(21) Hook (A) Worn area
Attach a known good bucket to the Quick Coupler. Measure gap (D) that is between hook (21) and lock pin (19). See Illustration 13 for a view of gap (D). This will be the maximum amount of material that should be added in the rework process. If there is no remaining gap after the rework, some work tools may no longer fit into the coupler.
Disassemble the coupler and remove hook (21) .
Once hook (21) is removed, inspect worn area (A) for rework.

Prepare areas (A) for welding. This will ensure an improved weld.
Illustration 11 g01644558
Apply welds (B) to the prepared areas in order to build up the worn area. The welds will minimize the gap once the coupler is installed.Note: Since multiple components contribute to the overall wear of the coupler, the maximum number of rebuilds per coupler is two.

Grind the welds to slightly taller height than the original profile (C) .

Assemble hook (21) with coupler (4) and attach a known good bucket or a work tool in order to inspect coupler (4). Load the actuating lever against lock pin (19) in order to inspect coupler (4). Gaps that exceed the dimension between the face of connecting pin (23) of the work tool and hook (21) can be found in Table 7. See Illustration 7 and Illustration 8.Note: If the bore of the hook pivot pin becomes oversize by 3 mm (0.12 inch), the coupler should be welded and the coupler will need to be
