Remove the parking brake. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Parking Brake - Remove".Note: The service brakes for the fixed axle and the oscillating axle are the same. The same disassembly procedure is used for the service brakes on both axle assemblies.

Remove reaction plate (1) .
If necessary, mark the location and remove four studs (2) .

Remove three sprigs (3) .
Remove friction disc adapter (4) and the friction discs as an assembly.

Use Tooling (A) in order to remove retaining ring (7) .
Remove friction discs (5) and reaction plate (8) and spacer (6) from adapter (4) .

Use Tooling (A) in order to remove retaining ring (9) and spacer (10) from adapter (4) .

Remove three springs (11) .
Remove lower reaction plate (12) .

Use Tooling (B) in order to pry brake piston (13) up and away from the piston seals.
Remove brake piston (13) from the differential housing assembly.
