SHAFT 0820006 - Caterpillar

1. Remove the oil from the transmission and bevel gear housing. Release parking brake. 2. Remove nut (1) and lock.3. Put the nut on even with the end of the shaft. Use tooling (A) to pull drum from splines.4. Remove the tooling and remove the nut and brake drum. Weight is 45 lb. (20.4 kg). 5. Move the brake shoes apart and remove strut (2) with a bar.6. Remove the springs and brake shoes. 7. Disconnect the control linkage (7). Remove nuts and bolts (5) from the back plate.8. Remove back plate (6) and shields (4).9. Remove the lever nut, lever and camshaft. 10. Remove sleeve (10) for the oil seal.11. Remove the nuts (8) and adapter (9). The shims behind the adapter are for making bearing preload adjustment on the pinion shaft.12. Remove the oil seals from the adapter.Install Parking Brake (Direct Drive)
1. Install the seals in the adapter with tooling (A). Put the lips of the seals toward the transmission. Put SAE 30 oil on the lips of the seals.2. Install the shim pack, adapter and nuts. If preload adjustment is needed see ASSEMBLE TRANSMISSION.3. Install sleeve for oil seal. 4. Install the camshaft in the back plate. Put the lever (2) on the camshaft so the center line is 22°-30' (dimension X) below a right angle to the camshaft lobes (1). (Each serration on the shaft equals 11°-15'). 5. Install the lever nut (4) and tighten it until .001 to .010 in. (0.025 to 0.245 mm) end clearance is measured between back plate (3) and lever (5). Measure the dimension with a thickness gauge (6).6. Install the back plate and shields on the adapter. Install the control linkage. 7. Install the brake shoes on the back plate with holes (8) at the top.8. Install the brake springs in the rear set of holes.9. Use a bar to move the brake shoes apart and install strut (9).10. Install the brake drum. Be sure notches in drum engage with lugs (7) on sleeve for oil seal.11. Install brake drum nut and lock.12. Fill transmission and bevel gear housing with lubricant to correct level. 13. Release the parking brake control. Turn the knob (11) counterclockwise until the pin (10) is at the bottom of the slot. 14. Loosen locknut (12) and remove pin (14). Turn the yoke (13) on to the rod until a force of 50 lb. (22.6 kg) is needed to move the control lever into the engaged position.
