Use Tooling (B) and Tooling (E) to measure the end play of gear (21), as shown. Add or subtract center shim set (13) to obtain an end play measurement of 0.10 0.05 mm (0.004 0.002 inch).
When the correct shim thickness has been obtained, remove bearing cage (22), center shim set (13) and gear (21).

Lower the temperature of bearing cup (12). Use Tooling (D) to install bearing cup (12) to housing assembly (1). Note: Prior to assembly of the components, use 0.038 mm (0.0015 inch) shim stock, or standard feeler gauge, to check that the bearing cup is seated in the housing assembly.
Raise the temperature of bearing cones (11) and (9). Install bearing cones to gear (10). Note: Prior to assembly of the components use 0.038 mm (0.0015 inch) shim stock or standard feeler gauge to check that the bearing cones are seated on the gear.Note: Lubricate bearing cones with the lubricant that is being sealed.
Install gear (10).
Lower the temperature of bearing cup (8). Use Tooling (D) to install bearing cup (8) to bearing cage (4). Note: Prior to assembly of the components, use 0.038 mm (0.0015 inch) shim stock, or standard feeler gauge, to check that the bearing cup is seated in the bearing cage.
Install full upper shim set (5) and bearing cage (4) to housing assembly (1).
Do not install the O-ring seals (6) to bearing cage (4) at this time.
Install eight bolts (2) to bearing cage (4). Tighten eight bolts (2) to a torque of 50 7 N m (37 5 lb ft).
Rotate gear (10) through three revolutions in order to seat the bearings.

Use Tooling (B) and Tooling (E) to measure the end play of gear (10), as shown. Add or subtract upper shim set (5) to obtain an end play measurement of 0.10 0.05 mm (0.004 0.002 inch).
When the correct shim thickness has been obtained, remove bearing cage (4).
Install O-ring seals (6) and lip type seal (7) to bearing cage (4). Note: Lubricate seal lip with the lubricant that is being sealed.
Install bearing cage (4).
Apply Tooling (G) to the bolt threads prior to installation. Install eight bolts (2). Tighten eight bolts (2) to a torque of 50 7 N m (37 5 lb ft).
Install yoke (3) to gear (10).

Install gear (21).
Install center shim set (13) as determined in Step 19.
Install two O-ring seals (19) to bearing cage (22).
Install bearing cage (22) to housing assembly (1).
Apply Tooling (G) to the bolt threads prior to installation. Install four bolts (14). Tighten four bolts (14) to a torque of 50 7 N m (37 5 lb ft).
Install O-ring seal (15) to cover (17). Install cover (17).
Apply Tooling (G) to the bolt threads prior to installation. Install four bolts (16). Tighten four bolts (16) to a torque of 50 7 N m (37 5 lb ft).

Position the torque converter on wood blocks with the output shaft upright.
Install two O-ring seals (44) to torque
