Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

The 140-6430 Boom Lines Group contains the hydraulic circuit for the tilt cylinder (A) and the hydraulic circuit for the lift cylinder lines (B) .

(1) 165-7014 Tee (2) 164-5567 Fitting Assembly (3) 6V-0852 Dust Cap Replace the existing 148-8368 Elbow in the hydraulic circuit for the tilt cylinder with the new 165-7014 Tee (1). Refer to Illustration 2.

(2) 164-5567 Fitting Assembly (3) 6V-0852 Dust Cap (4) 166-2033 Tee The 166-2033 Tee (4) fits between the existing elbow (C) and hose (D) in the hydraulic circuit for the pilot lines of the boom lift cylinder. Install the 164-5567 Fitting Assembly (2) and 6V-0852 Dust Cap (3) on the tee. Refer to Illustration 3.After you install the new parts, the hydraulic lines will require purging. Use the following procedures to purge the hydraulic lines.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Acquire the following components in order to help purge the hydraulic lines: a 177-7860 Hose Assembly, a 6V-4143 Coupler and a large container.
Assemble the components from Step 1. The hose must be secured to the container in order to contain the hydraulic fluid when the hydraulic system is energized.
Connect the 6V-4143 Coupler to the fitting assembly (2) for the lift cylinder (B) .
Place the container on the ground so the operator can see the fluid exit from the hose.
Engage the parking brake. Start the engine. Set the engine speed to the LOW IDLE position.
Slowly move the joystick for the single lever control to the LOWER position until the hydraulic cylinder is fully retracted. A mixture of oil and air should come out of the hose. Hold the lever in the LOWER position until a stream of oil comes from the hose. Air must not be exiting with the oil.Note: Do not move the lever to the FLOAT position.
Release the single lever control. Allow the control to return to the HOLD position.
Stop the engine.
Remove the coupler from the fitting assembly.
Check the hydraulic oil level in the hydraulic oil tank.
Start the engine.
