Remove the swing brake. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Swing Parking Brake - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Use two people to position disc housing (1) with the flange for the motor on top. Remove elbow fitting (2) from disc housing (1). Disc housing (1) weighs approximately 45 kg (99 lb).

Use two people to position disc housing (1) in a press with the flange for the motor on the bottom. Center tool (A) on pressure plate (4). Apply pressure to Tool (A) until pressure plate (4) moves. Use Tool (B) to remove ring (3) from disc housing (1). Slowly release the pressure from Tool (A).

Use two people to remove disc housing (1) from the press. Remove pressure plate (4) from the disc housing.

Remove 25 inner springs and 25 outer springs (5) from piston (6). Note: The springs are part of the brake disc kit.

Use two people to position disc housing (1) with the flange for the motor on top. Use Tool (C) to remove centering ring (7) from disc housing (3).

Remove O-ring (8) from centering ring (7).

Use Tool (B) to remove ring (9) from disc housing (1).

Remove shim (10) from disc housing (1).

Remove brake disc kit (11) from disc housing (1).

Use two people to position disc housing (1) in a press with the flange for the motor on top. Center Tool (A) on piston (6). Press piston (6) out of disc housing (1).

Remove backup rings (12) and seal (13) from disc housing (1).

Remove brake seal kit (14) from piston (6).
