Remove the swing motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Swing Motor - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Thoroughly clean the area around the swing drive prior to removal.
Drain the oil from the swing drive into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the swing drive is approximately 10 L (3 US gal).

Use Tooling (A) to remove bolts (1) and the washers that secure the swing drive to the main frame.

Fasten Tooling (B) and a hoist to swing drive (2), as shown.

Remove the two corks from the threaded holes in the swing drive housing. Install Tooling (C) in each threaded hole in the swing drive housing. Slowly tighten one forcing screw for a few turns, and then tighten the other forcing screw for a few turns. Tighten the forcing screws evenly in this manner in order to separate the swing drive from the main frame.
Remove swing drive (2) from the machine. The weight of the swing drive is approximately 310 kg (683 lb).
